M-School title: Design Intern
Post-secondary institution: Ryerson University
Program of study: Bachelor of Design

What I really loved about M-School the most is the fact that they take you seriously. I was given responsibilities and opportunities that I knew would be hard to come by in other internships. They give you the autonomy to work on your projects, while being supportive and patient with you as you familiarize yourself with the work flow. Four-months-ago-me wouldn’t have thought that I’d be learning so much! Not only did I get to hone my design skills but I also gained valuable insight on how the media and publishing industry works. Along the way, you hear great stories from incredible people. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

What were your primary tasks?

  • Design both print and digital layouts
  • Create graphics for newsletters, social media and video
  • Source, crop and resize images

Describe one day in the workplace.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work with two magazines: Flare/Hello and Today’s Parent. Most days I would work on all sorts of design projects. Other days I would be on a photo or a video set helping out and I would see all these other creative people come together to produce something super cool! There was always something exciting to look forward to.

What is your dream job?

An art director in a creative agency.
