M-School title: Digital Intern at FLARE

The way M-School stands out beyond any other publishing or media internship is the unprecedented access it provides us interns to Rogers media as a whole. I wasn’t just working with my own team at FLARE—I was connected with everyone from custom publishing to digital strategy to the other brands under Rogers Media. Each session was interesting and informative, and it also served as a formal introduction to industry people that I’ve always wanted the chance to network with. The connections we make at M-School are invaluable!
What were your primary tasks?
- Running FLARE’s various social media accounts (including Twitter, Facebook & Instagram).
- Writing reactive news pieces based on digital trends; pitching and writing culture pieces.
- Manning the initial cross-posting initiative between FLARE and KiSS 92.5’s digital sites.
Describe one day in the workplace.
When I arrive at Rogers, I begin scheduling tweets for the morning. I pitch ideas and take on reactive stories as they come up. In between FLARE team meetings, M-School sessions, and connecting with staff from all over Rogers, I cross-post FLARE content to the KiSS site, schedule social posts, and write my own pieces throughout the rest of the day.
What is your dream job?
Writing and editing (and/or running social!) for some of my favourite magazines and digital publications, like FLARE, Dazed, Nylon and Coveteur.
