M-School title: Retention Marketing Intern, Next Issue
Post-secondary institution: McGill University
Program of study: Economics, Business and Communications
M-School has been an incredible opportunity to transfer what I have been learning in school to the real world. With mentorship and weekly learning sessions, the program is designed for interns to take away useful skills to help get them started in their careers. It was so rewarding being able to contribute ideas and work toward projects that were actually implemented by Next Issue. I am so grateful that I was able to participate, and I would highly recommend the M-School program to other students or grads.
Describe one day in the workplace?
Updating top stories for the day; staff meeting; catching up on emails; meeting with mentor about weekly projects; working on weekly reports; brainstorming “Weekend Reads” ideas
What is your proudest accomplishment from the internship?
Some days around the office can be pretty hectic, especially in the publishing industry, which runs on strict deadlines. As an intern, I found it extremely rewarding to be able to help multiple people at the same time to get their work done. I am really proud of moments where we had tight deadlines and, by helping wherever I could, I helped turn out a great final product. Facing these challenges has really helped me develop my time management and organizational skills, and that has helped me become a better worker.
What is your dream job?
The CEO of a Fortune 500 company or the Sugarplum Fairy in The Nutcracker
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
I would stay in school forever! I love learning new things and taking courses that interest me.
